Installing ViperOS on Samsung Galaxy Tab E (SM-T560)

This post describes how to install custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy Tab E. Why should you do this ? Because installed Android version is 4.x, and no updates are provided by Samsung. Here we're going to install ViperOS 5.1 wich corresponds to Android 7.1 (Nougat).

Pre-requisites

Linux
heimdall and adb tools (sudo apt install heimdall-flash android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot)

Download packages

Get twrp
Get ViperOS package from here (this link comes from this thread)
Get Opengapps (ARM, v7.1, micro)
Get Magisk (for root access)

Install TWRP

TWRP is a recovery tool that can replace stock tool from your device. To install TWRP on SM-T560:

Shutdown your device
Push Home+Volume Down+Power to boot in Download mode
Then: tar xvf twrp_3.0.2-1_sm-t560.tar heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img
⚡ ⚡ ⚡ Before the device reboots, holds down Home+Volume Up+Power to boot in Recovery mode

Install ViperOS

Wipe all / factory reset then copy the packages:


adb push T560_Viper_V5.1.zip open_gapps-arm-7.1-micro-20201223.zip Magisk-v20.3.zip /sdcard

Then choose Install, in the following order:

T560_Viper_V5.1.zip
open_gapps-arm-7.1-micro-20201223.zip
Magisk-v20.3.zip

Reboot ! 🎉🎉🎉

Free space

Open File Manager and remove uploade files.

Installing Netflix

Sadly, Netflix cannot be installed from the Play Store (incompatible device...). To fix this, allow installation from third-party sources then install Netflix apk from Netflix says 'This app is not compatible with your device.'.
